Ok, heres the same update again, this time from the comfort of the Wireless Lounge and my own laptop.
The trip from New Zealand was long and hard, but fortunately some passengers re-arranged themselves and Dave and I got to share a set of 3 seats. Managed to get a few hours of sleep plus around 1,000 lines of Tetris in there before we hit L.A.
The temperature on the West coast was, just barely tolerable. You could probably make it through the day without any Argyle. This was in sharp contrast to New York, where the temperature is god damn ridiculous.
We shivered out of the JFK Terminal into a big yellow cab, which our Kebabanese driver proceeded to hurl through the streets with gay abandon. It was very exciting. Some guy locked his brakes up in front of us and the driver asked us to point out which car it was so he could give the dude an ear-bashing when he overtook further down the road. Fortunately he held back on the ear-bashing because the rush of icy air through an open window would have killed us.
Oh, and somewhere along the highway we got passed (barely) by a 4 door civic being chased by a Dodge Neon SRT-4, both at flat biscuits, both sounding like absolute garbage, weaving through the throng of Crown Vic's and Lincoln Towncars with less than impressive pace. I was so completely amazed to see the archetype of the USA car scene summed up entirely within 10 minutes of leaving the airport.
We arrived at the front door of our Hostel only to discover it was the front door of some Asian mans apartment. He then had to send us through a rabbit warren of charmingly awful trash-strewn hallways and catwalks to the actual lobby of the Hostel. Minutes later we'd met Michelle, stacked on a couple extra layers of clothing and went out to grab a bite to eat. Note: Scarves are awesome, see above.
We settled at New Yorks equivalent of New York Slice Pizza and I had a pretty damn delicious slice of something, before we all headed back to the Hostel to turn in for the evening.
Packing it in for the night now, big day tomorrow.
